We have all been on the hunt to replace members for our band or find musicians when starting a new band.
Below are a few different ways of obtaining new members or replacement members for your band. The most important thing in this process is to be open minded and social. By social I mean talk to other bands and music stores and ask around. As the expression goes, “Ask and you shall receive.” I want to go over the main ways that will usually work in finding members for your band.
The Band
The first and most obvious way to find new band members is to use the exiting band members and or your circle of musician friends to ask if they know anyone who can fill the position. Usually someone in the band knows someone that plays too. This is a great opportunity also to meet with other bands and get even friendlier with your local music store.
The Store
The second way of finding a new member for you band is to hit the streets! Most musicians have a favorite local music store. Be friendly and social with your local music store associate and they may know of musicians that are looking to join a project like yours. Also, most music stores will have bulletin boards which you can use to advertise. Use these to spread the word about the specifics of what type of music you want to do, what type of players you are looking for and include a link to any social media sites or links to your music to find a good fit for everyone.
The Interwebs
Lastly you can use the all powerful internet to look for musicians. Craigslist will work and also www.musicianoid.com/Musicians-Wanted or www.bandmix.com. Some of these sites might charge you a small monthly fee but will help you choose from a wider selection of musicians and are much faster than waiting for someone to see your ad and come to you.
The Clubs
You can also go to local open mic nights and venues that have live music to schmooze with the local musicians. Once again keep an open mind and be social. If you have them - Share those videos of your band or song links that can show these musicians what kind of sound you are trying to create with your band.
